Global society has been going through a process of electrification, resulting in an increase in the demand for static power converters. Therefore, it is necessary to study and design converters, as well as control techniques aimed at regulating them. This work proposes the mathematical modeling of the three-cell bidirectional interleaved boost converter, a continuous and discretized classical control system design, as well as a sliding mode control system design methodology, both applied to the interleaved boost converter. The lack of temporal information in the sliding mode control law is one of the difficulties encountered in its implementation with the aim of regulating interleaved converters, given that the current in each of the converter cells requires a phase shift of 360°/𝑛 , where 𝑛 corresponds to the number of cells. This is also a setback to ensuring a fixed and predetermined operating frequency. The works presented on the regulation of interleaved converters, using variable structure controllers, such as sliding mode control, usually lack understanding of the controller design methodology and the limitations for obtaining a fixed operating frequency and current phase shift. . In this work, the sliding mode control methodology is detailed in order to facilitate its understanding based on the analysis of the current arrangement in the converter cells. A mathematical geometric method was then developed, highlighting the possible static gains for the interleaved converter and the limitations of its use. Finally, simulation results are presented that attest to the effectiveness of the sliding mode controller design methodology for interleaved converters and its limitations.
