Ozone therapy has been used to contribute to faster resolution of the repair. The objective of the present study was to analyze the effects of ozone, as gas and as ozonated oil, on the characterization of the monomorphonuclear inflammatory infiltrate and mast cells. This was an in vivo experimental study in which Wistar rats were subjected to ozone therapy as a therapeutic approach for a standardized skin wound. The specimens were randomly allocated into three experimental groups: Control (CG), treated with ozone gas (GGO), and treated with Ozonated Oil (GOO) after cutaneous surgery, for three consecutive days. The animals were sacrificed on the 5th and 10th days. Histomorphometric analysis was performed on tissue sections stained with HE and Toluidine Blue, for semiquantitative analysis of the monomorphonuclear inflammatory infiltrate and histomorphometric analysis of mast cells, respectively. It was observed that there was no statistically significant difference regarding monomorphonuclear inflammatory infiltrate between the groups in both study periods (p>0.05). There was an increase in the number of intact and degranulated mast cells in the treated groups in comparison to the control (GGO P=0.0003; GOO p=0.004).
