A música na capoeira regional como elemento de construção identitária

Music plays a crucial role in capoeira, for the practice, the rite and the individual. The primary objective of this Master’s Thesis is therefore proposing reflections on the various roles played by music in capoeira as an element of identity construction as well as the importance given to the instruments, the music and the lyrics of the songs. The work presented is the result of research and studies about capoeira, more specifically regarding the type of relationship that music develops in the process of identity formation in this practice, having as guidelines the theoretical concepts of anthropology and ethnomusicology.
