The aim of this study was to evaluate the diffusion and patterns of use of trastuzumab in the treatment of non-metastatic breast cancer in the Brazilian Southeast Region. The production of chemotherapy for breast cancer performed between January 2013 and September 2016 were analyzed. The diffusion of trastuzumab occurred rapidly in all States, reaching a plateau six months after its incorporation. The characteristics of the hospitals were associated to a greater use of trastuzumab. The State of Rio de Janeiro presented the highest percentage of cases treated with this biological drug, which was similar to the over expression of HER2 in the population, and it also showed the highest percentage of cases beginning this therapy in stage III or IV. Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo were the States with higher percentage of cases treated with trastuzumb compared with the estimates of new cases with over expression of HER2. The study revealed different utilization profiles among the States, reflecting their differences in the organization of their cancer care in the Southeast Region.","abstract_html":"Trastuzumab is a biological drug incorporated into the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS, in Portuguese) in 2013 to treat non-metastatic breast cancer with over expression of HER2.
