However, this DG penetration can not be done in an uncontrolled way. It requires a comprehensive analysis to adapt the present systems to this new scenario. In the attempt to make those adaptations many procedures and new equipment must be considered. However, they must be thoroughly analyzed to guarantee their effectiveness. This study aims to observe the traditional protection philosophy for radial distribution systems, verifying the main equipment that compose it, analyzing the coordination between them for the radial case and considering the effect of DG on this philosophy. The present work also aims to study the application of an adaptive protection system that uses synchrophasor measurement as a solution to the problems identified. The algorithm is based on the Thévenin impedance at the connection points of the sources. Its reliability is improved in a system of high DG penetration, due to the greater number of contributions of short-circuit currents. For the studies, two simulation softwares of Power Systems ANAFAS and SIMULIGHT are used and the numerical software MATLAB. The cases are simulated in the 37-bus IEEE test system.","abstract_html":"The penetration of Distributed Generation (DG) is a reality in distribution networks, adding capacity to attend to the growing demand.
