Multiphase flows are present in several areas of the industry. Modeling these types of flow are, therefore, imperative to engineering. In literature, there are several methods to calculate friction pressure losses in such processes. These methods involve friction factors, parameters that depend on flow conditions and fluid property. The interfacial friction factor represents the friction tension generated from the interaction between fluids, and it is currently calculated through empirical correlations that are not able to describe the physical phenomenon properly. Hence, the main goal of this work was to introduce a new correlation for the interfacial friction factor between gas and liquid for stratified flows, based on physical considerations and that can be applied in a wider range of flow conditions. Comparisons of the proposed model with experimental results showed good agreement.
