Cálculo aproximado da deflexão lateral em edifícios altos

This work aims to present ways for a quick calculation of lateral deflection of multistory buildings. At preliminary stage of design, the use of approximate methods is very interesting, because use of computer programs with preliminary data is not a good practice. A method to do the compatibility of the lateral deflection at one floor is presented. The hypothesis of stiff horizontal diaphragm for floor slabs is considered and the same deflection is imposed for all bracing vertical elements, at one floor only, preferably for the top one. Thus, computation of the lateral deflection of these vertical elements is requested. Here, two ways for this computation are presented. The first one developted by professors V. Baikov and E. Sigalov, and the other one developted by professors Stafford Smith and Martin Kuster. Several examples of both methods have been done. Their results have been compared with those obtained by computer programs of the stiffiness method and have showed the powerfull of those methods.
