Contribuição ao estudo do adensamento secundário

A study of soil compressibility in the oedometer under longterm loading is made in order to observe the phenomenon of secondary compression. A critical analysis of sorne proposed approaches to secondary compression was carried out and a new approach that associates secondary compression to the changes in time of the coefficient of lateral earth pressure (Ko) was also studied. A new interpretation of the imediate compression observed in oedometer tests is given. Finally, the Pacheco Silva's construction modified by Martins for the determination of the overconsolidation stress was applied to the data and compared with the results obtained by the Casagrande's Construction.
