The bracing systems studied here are the ones used in steel buildings all over the world to provide adequate stiffness against that loading. The mentioned methods of analysis are suitable for a preliminary stage of design, when it is desirable to have computation costs smaller than more precise methods would require. In both methods it is considered the hypothesis of stiff horizontal diaphragms for the floor slabs. In the first one, a compatibility is imposed on the horizontal displacements at the level of each floor. In the second one, the compatibility of these displacements is made for only one floor, preferably for the top one. Using some examples, comparisons are made between these two and more precise methods and conclusions about the approximate ones are drawn.","abstract_html":"This work aims to classify the bracing systems for multi storey buildings in steel and to check two approximate methods for the analysis of these systems under the action of lateral loading.
