The principal properties of the flow and sound fields of a turbulent jet are commented. It is shown that, to obbey energy conservation, the shear noise/self noise model requires interference between the two types of terms to occur. The importance of source coherence in the sound field is discussed, and some evidences against this hypothesis are raised. Far field sound pressure correlations are examined and modelled in a very simple form.
