The present work presents a computer program (TRANSH), developed by the author for calculating the hydraulic transients relevant to oil pipelines. The hyperbolic partial differential equations which govern this phenomenum were transformed into ordinary differential equations via the method of characteristics. Using finite differences these ordinary differential equations are then transformed into algebric equations which may be solved on a computer. The program developed here models equipments usually found in the petrol industry for transporting fluids (pumps, block valves, check valves, relief valves, tanks, etc.).
