Simulação da construção e do primeiro enchimento do reservatório de barragens zonadas de terra e enrocamento pelo método dos elementos finitos
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe Finite Element Method, using quadrilateral isoparametric elements with eight nodal points and triangular elements with six nodal points is applied to the static bidimensional analysis of Zoned Earth and Rock-fill Dams. The main objetive of this dissertation consists in the analysis of the behavior of Earth and Rock-fill Dams during construction and first filling of the reservoir. A brief revision of basic concepts of the FEM and how it is applied in the simulation of construction of non-homogeneous Earth Dams is made. A revision of the effects of saturation in granular and rocky materials is also made, based on the currently used simulation procedures of the first filling of the reservoir. Simulations of construction and first filling of Oroville Dam (California, USA) and João Durval Carneiro Dam (Bahia, Brasil) are made, and the calculated results are compared with those furnished by instrumentation, in order to verify the effiency of the procedures utilized. Recommendations as to the applications of the FEM to the problem studied are also presented.
