A semi-energy method is used to investigate the non-linear interaction between the local and global flexural buckling modes. The results of this analysis show the stable and unstable local post-critical equilibrium paths, for various columns, plus the growth of membrane stress distribution during the post-critical process. The theoretical ultimate load is compared with some experimental results.
