A routine is formulated for the design of plane hydrostatic bearing system, as used in machine tools, particularly lathes. Incompressible fluid flow conditions and parameters are first studied and defined for the bearing system. A digital computer program is then presented, which is capable of determining bearing dimensions and hydraulic system characteristics.
