A new process for obtaining the maximum past vertical stress (σ’vm) based on this new relationship is presented. It is also suggested, as an alternate solution for the determination of σ’vm, the utilization of Pacheco Silva's (1970) graphical construction directly on the compression curve log v x log σ’v.
