Abstract
dc:description.abstractPlanning and optimization criteria for rainfall network data collection system are discussed. Methodologies which quantify the accuracy of areal average rainfall estimates are presented. Analysis of the information reliability based on: a) variance of relative error, b) in reduction factors and e) in integration of precipitation trend surface, is used for network planning operated to estimate the long-term mean total rainfall over a long period of time, averaged over a given region. A case-study with tne Pardo river (São Paulo state) basin precipitation network is presented. Two methods used for the design of network aiming total areal storm depth estimation, one considering implicit and the other explicity the configuration are discussed. These two approaches are applied to the Rio de Janeiro city rainfall network.
