Aplicação e calibração de um modelo matemático de qualidade de água

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Due to the increasing of the population and of industrial development, the study of pollutants behavior in water bodies, of suggested models and the study of proposed otimizations methods, became a subject of great interest. Most of water quality models now in use are extensions of two fairly simple equations, proposed by Streeter and Phelps (1925), for predicting the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) concentrations resulted from the discharge of biodegradable organic waste into river systems. The study presented here analyses the pollution behavior in a river and provides a methodology to calibrate the parameters involved in the utilized model. The application is made in Atibaia River (SP) where is utilized the QUAL-II/SEMCOG Model, simulating six oonstituents. The parameter estimation problem is solved by Quasilinearization technique, an effective approach for coefficients estimation in differencial equations arising from stream quality modelling.
