A general and consistent theory for stress analysis of linear reinforced concrete members, subjected to bending moment, axial and shear forces, is presented. The mechanical model adopted assumes that the concrete is formed by small curved struts, whose directions vary along the height and the longitudinal axis of the member. Based on the equations which represent the model, three analysis procedures are developed. ln the first, name warping section method, the entire set of equations is considered. ln the second procedure the equivalent section method is the main simplification done in the analysis. ln the third procedure design criteria based on the design codes are introduced. These procedures can be performed for any cross section, with a single symmetry axis, if it is assumed that the tangential stresses are oriented along the sarne direction. The presented methods are compared and different conclusions are drawn.
