With this aim fifteen beams with approximately the same geometrical characteristics and the same transversal reinforcement were tested until the failure. The variable parameters were the type of brick, the longitudinal reinforcement and the inclusion, or not, of concrete reinforced blocks at the extremities of the beams to resist the shear force. A design method was proposed and comparisons were made between the theoretically estimated values and the experimental results got from the testing. Through these comparisons it was concluded that the design method and the safety coefficients proposed are reliable. It was also verified the distribution normality of the values of the masonry compression strength.
