A bibliographic review on this subject is presented, and the variation with depth of the undrained shear strength of the three deposits of soft clay is another topic investigated. Computation was made provided the clays were isotropic materials as far as undrained strength is concerned. After determining the strength in the way described above the strength anisotropy characteristics have been tentatively evalueted by Aas' (1965) and Wiesel's (1973) methods.
