The author took off from the characterization of genus Actinia Browne, 1756, what is refered to \"sphincter with a slight tendency to be mesoectodermal\" (Carlgren, 1949: 49 e Corrêa 1964: 50). based upon hystological observations. She points the presence of longtudinal fission on the species. The author considers Asteractis expansa Duerden, 1902 and Asteractis flosculifera (Lesueur, 1817) as synonimous as Phyllactis praetexta (Dana, 1846).
