The media (in special the joumalistic speech) does deeply play a strategic role in the public stiucture and haue some great power to infer the public agenda. The capacity the journalistic speech has to built the reality is part of its power of misunderstanding the iournalistic speech with the public one. This work intends to show up the strategies of some written newspaper from Rio de Janeiro in the construction of what it is called “urban violence”. With methodological resources of the Social Theory of Discourse and the Antonio Gramsci work, we analyze the disputes focusing the violence in Rio, in the nem fiom 2000 to 2002. We also show the hegemonic discourses in the way those newspapers cut, classify and build up the reality. In relation to the ideological aspects, we try to show up the hegemonic parãdigms and explained model of violence, that manipulate orders of the present speeches in the newspaper. In relation to persuasive aspects, we try to show up the ideological consequences of the growing of entertainment and marketing language as a tool of seduction the reader of newspapers. The joumalism owns a fundamental formative task in our time. Tryjng to criticize ideological elements that are natural parts of the informative texts, we intend to contribute to critical thinking also reaches the “ways of saying” of the journalists about the violence in the Rio de Janeiro city.
