Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe scope of this thesis is to develop a method for the analysis of building skeletons. The analysis takes into account the combined effect of columns, beams, shear walls and box shaped shear walls, under the action of vertical and horizontal loads. All the joint displacements are considered. The slabs are assumed as two-dimensional rigid membranes. A Computer program is presented allowing computations of displacements and internal forces for buildings up to 50 stores with up to 25 joints for each floor. The prograrn was designed for a IBM 360/40 computer. This prograrn takes advantage of the properties of the band matrix that caracterizes the stiffness matrix. The technique used to assemble and store the stiffness matrix is a modified version of the partition method. Some examples are presented using this method.
