This work deals with an experimental study on the behaviour of the structural system named "Beam with Hanging Effect" conceived by Mr. Antonio Alves de Noronha Filho. A first study on the behaviour and on the design method of this type of structure was made by analytical means. The structure uses an association of general principles of suspension bridges and concrete bridges. An ultimate load test on a model of a "beam with hanging effect" was performed, and the results are presented in tables and graphs and are briefly discussed and compared with analytical values. The performed test brought important information on the behaviour of the structure, mainly on the influence of the second order effect, but the results are insuficient for a decisive conclusion on the functional and economical feasibility of this novel structural system. For such a decisive conclusion more complete studies and some other tests would be necessary.
