Petrology and structural geology of the Sanarate-El Progreso area, Guatemala

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This project was undertaken at the suggestion of Dr. T.W. Donnelly, as a research problem in the basement geology and structure associated with the Motagua Valley fault zones. The entire Sanarate quadrangle was mapped as part of the geological program of the Instituto Geografico Nacional, which provides field support for detailed quadrangle mapping. Work was continued into the El Progreso quadrangle to extend the structural and geologic cross-sections from the Tertiary volcanic highlands in the south to the Motagua Valley fault zones.
