A qualitative evaluation of outcomes from a posttraumatic growth oriented program among veterans.

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Many veterans suffer from posttraumatic stress. It is estimated that 87% of veterans encounter at least one potentially traumatic event (PTE) during their military service (Wisco et al., 2014). While current behavioral interventions, such as prolonged exposure (PE) have been shown to reduce some symptoms of trauma, many veterans do not benefit sufficiently or drop out of treatment. To address this limitation of traditional PE based programs, a complementary intervention based upon posttraumatic growth (PTG) theory has been developed. The Boulder Crest Foundation, Warrior PATHH Posttraumatic Growth Oriented Program is a 7-day intensive educational and experiential manualized program. Research has shown the Warrior PATHH program increases posttraumatic growth and decreases posttraumatic stress symptoms (Tedeschi & Moore, 2021; Rhodes et al., 2024; Kelley, et al., 2025). However, research to date has been limited to quantitative measures, and qualitative outcomes of the Warrior PATHH treatment program are unknown. Examination of qualitative data is essential to better understand the personal impact of the Warrior PATHH program, providing deeper insights into how it changes views on past experiences and future outlooks. Results will have implications for future directions of posttraumatic growth training by identifying elements through qualitative feedback that contribute program’s effectiveness and highlighting areas for further development.
