The impact of federal legislation on the arts and the humanities : 1960 to present.

Government support for the arts and the humanities started in the 1960s under President John F. Kennedy. The "cultural sixties," as the decade has become known, ushered in an abundance of policies and preliminary steps that would increase government involvement and support of both the arts and humanities through the creation of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. From analyzing and researching each presidential administration since the 1960s, today’s current events in the museum field are not the first of their kind, and most likely will not be the last. The arts and humanities have faced trials for decades, yet the federal government has continued to provide support for them. Despite this support, federal policies continue to negatively affect the arts and the humanities despite efforts put in to rectify this.
