Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of The Marble Faun. This study has been divided into five parts. Chapter I reveals facts of Hawthorne's European stay and actual composition of the romance. Chapter II presents Hawthorne's source material for The Marble Faun in the hope that it can be more clearly revealed that the main body of Hawthorne's romance was based on his experiences and not on mere speculation. Symbolism in The Marble Faun is the subject of Chapter III. In Chapter IV, the major themes treated by Hawthorne in The Marble Faun are discussed. The final chapter serves as a summary of the work.
