It was a culmination of several years of dreaming, planning, and volunteer labor. Several months before the air show, the organizers became interested in having a video record of their work and of the event that they were creating. This desire led to the production of a thirty-minute documentary entitled "Creating an Event," that was to chronicle how the "Air Expo" came to be, and then faithfully convey the color and excitement of the event itself. An analysis of the documentary-style program and a review of previous air show documentaries serve in evaluating this project. It was also beneficial to research the role of aviation in Texas, because it was to promote aviation in the state that "Texas Air Expo" was conceived. The videotaping of the airshow was a demanding undertaking, consisting principally of a five-day, two-camera remote shoot that filled twelve hours of videotape. The program was edited into two programs, one tailored to the needs of the organizers of the show, and the other designed to be broadcast on public television.
