Baylor University.
A history and analysis of radio broadcasting at Baylor University, 1935-1968.
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis study develops the history of radio broadcasting at Baylor University and analyzes its effect as a collegiate communication and educational medium. Chapter I defines the role of collegiate radio in the United States. Its history, current status, and future are discussed. It is concluded that the future of educational radio is assured, but its aim must be clearly defined. Chapter II is devoted to the history of collegiate radio broadcasting at Baylor University from 1935 until 1965. The early history of experimentation and innovation, the increased activity during the World War II period, and the later reception difficulties are examined in order to determine the evolvement of broadcasting in Baylor University's educational atmosphere. It is concluded that radio broadcasting at Baylor University has moved in cycles of inward and outward projection. The conception and formation of KWBU-FM, Baylor University's noncommercial educational radio station, is developed in Chapter III. KWBU-FM's operational procedures and policies are examined in order to provide an insight into the complexities of a collegiate broadcasting situation. It is concluded that Baylor University's present broadcasting operation is performing its duties effectively but is inhibited by financial limitations. It is the conclusion of this study that collegiate radio broadcasting in the United States and at Baylor University has had an active and effective history. Its future depends on recognition and utilization.
