Republican leaders in McLennan County, Texas : a case study of political and social characteristics associated with southern Republicanism.

This is an analysis of the McLennan County (Waco) delegates to the 1964 and 1966 conventions of the Texas Republican Party. The purpose of the study, which employed the survey method, was to examine these delegates in their role as leaders of the county party rather than as representatives to the state convention. The intent of the study was to test empirically certain propositions about Southern Republicans in a closely limited case study. The value of such an analysis rests on its contribution to a base of data from which generalizations can be made concerning the growth of the Republican party in the South.
