The Physical and Painted Body: Performance and Reciprocity

Undergoing a transformation of the traditional painting practice, this project explores abstract, performative processes that utilise the body as both subject and object, requiring an understanding of the historical influences of performance art and the female body in art. The relationship between the physical and painted body presents the possibilities of a reciprocal nature, a physical conversation and connection, while also grappling with the place personal identity and gender hold within a bodily practice. The exploration of this abstract painting process and its residual elements, combined with the preserved outcome, reveals the intricate traits of this body-to-body relationship.
