Since then, various green building rating systems have been introduced to the construction industry worldwide and the demand for certified green buildings has gradually increased. These results have successfully improved people’s environmental awareness. However, the existing certification process has proved unsatisfactory in attracting stakeholders and/or professionals who are actively engaged in adopting rating systems. This is because they have faced recurring barriers: limited information to aid understanding of each criterion; time-consuming procedures due to extra effort required; and additional unforeseen costs, which have a direct influence on pursuing green building rating systems. This study aims to design a pre-assessment platform that provides an opportunity for building professionals/project teams seeking to implement green building certification to clarify their plan to overcome a variety of barriers that they will encounter at the initial stages of a project. Firstly, this pre-assessment platform can increase basic knowledge of each requirement during the certification process, mainly in terms of all the barriers related to knowledge, time, and cost. Secondly, the pre-assessment platform also focuses on the need to address the Main Barrier Elements (MBEs) and includes more specific in-depth information on the GSNZ rating system. This platform displays specific issues, important details about barriers. The third goal of the pre-assessment platform is to assign difficulty levels to the indicators that will be used in the certification process. The pre-assessment platform assists project teams in swiftly identifying Credit Difficulty Indicators (CDIs), which indicate the difficulty and ease of achieving certain credits in comparison to other credits. Therefore, this proposed pre-assessment platform can be recommended as an effective method to support decision-making early in the planning and conceptual design phases of GSNZ projects and plays an important role in promoting a higher level of green building certification. Furthermore, the pre-assessment platform provides a better understanding of international green building rating systems and aids building industry professionals in selecting the optimal feasible option for green building projects.
