It has the potential to enhance teaching and learning across all health disciplines, but it is also a costly educational tool lacking rigourous research to justify and enhance its use. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact an education session using high fidelity simulation has on Respiratory Therapists’ knowledge of mechanical ventilation associated protocols compared to usual methods of recertification. A randomized control trial using pre and post-tests allowed for comparison of scores between the two groups: those that read and reviewed the protocol and education package, and those exposed to simulation education as well as the usual method for recertification.
