The primary objective of this research was to investigate the effects of long term wear on the ocular compatibility of hydrogel contact lenses with reference to the incidence of deposits. A number of spoilt lenses, representative of a wide range of lens chemistries were examined. A variety of analytical and histological techniques were developed in order to characterise the morphology, chemical composition and geology of lens deposits.
