Both sexes were found to metabolise folic acid to various compounds. Intact folates and catabolites were excreted in the urine and folate polyglutamates were found in the tissues. The extent of tissue uptake and catabolism were found to vary between the male and female rat. Female rats treated with diethylstilboestrol and mazola corn oil showed marked changes in the metabolic handling of folic acid.
