Ankara ili kamu temel eğitim okulları müdürlerinin sergiledikleri özgeci davranışlara ile kişilik özellikleri arasındaki ilişki

In this study, it is aimed to define the relationship between the personality characteristics on the basis of 5-factors and the school principals' altruistic behaviours at basic education schools in nine central districts of Ankara ( Altındağ, Çankaya, Etimesgut, Gölbaşı, Keçiören, Mamak, Pursaklar, Sincan ve Yenimahalle). The focus of the research constitutes 645 school principals who are in charge of 901 public basic education schools. 239 school principals took part in the sample of the study. A rating scale, developed by the researcher, for displaying the frequency of altruistic behaviours and a 44-item inventory, developed by Benet-Martinez and John in 1998 and adapted to Turkish by Sümer, Lajunen and Özkan in 2005, have been applied to the sample group. The data obtained has been analyzed by the SPSS programme. Frequency and percentage have been used to describe the personal specifications of the participants. The altruistic behaviours of the school principals has been analyzed by using t-test in order to observe whether their opinions change according to gender, age, branch or numbers of siblings; and by using unidimensional analysis of variance in order to find out whether the opinions change according to seniority, type of school, the duration of administration, marital status, number of the students and teachers in school, birth sequence, and educational status. It has been resolved by Pearson correlation analysis whether there is a relationship between the altruistic behaviours of the school principals and the personality characteristics based on 5-factors. The data obtained by this research has shown that extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness to experience based on 5-factor increase the altruism oriented properties like benevolence and social/supportive behaviours. All subdimensions of altruistic behaviours and neuroticism are inversely proportional. The most common altruistic behaviour that has been displayed by school principals is benevolence. When we study on the dominant personality characteristics of school principals, we can see "agreeableness" at first. The least common personality characteristics is "neuroticism". In order to increase the altruistic behaviours, Some activities can be included in the school schedule. Thanks to these activities, the experienced school principals, displaying benevolence more, and younger/less eperienced school principals can work together, can share something about knowledge, skill, attitude. Moreover, in order to specify the frequency of the altruistic behaviours and dominant personality characteristics of school principals, it's possible to consult the teachers who work with these principals
