Golem. Między reifikacją i upodmiotowieniem

Golem to człekopodobna postać ożywiona dzięki kreacyjnej mocy człowieka. Pisarze i pisarki wyszli poza opisy znane z folkloru czy żydowskiej kabały, wpisując figurę Golema w krąg zjawisk charakterystycznych dla nowoczesności. Wizerunek Golema jako sztucznej lub zdehumanizowanej istoty ludzkiej staje się modelem wpływu rozmaitych projektów społecznych, w tym ideologii totalitarnej, na człowieka. Opowieść o kreacji Golema – istoty, która nie może być „taka, jak człowiek”, odsłania granice ludzkiego i konsekwencje bytowania poza owymi granicami. Pracę otwiera prezentacja ewolucji postaci Golema od pierwszej wzmianki po współczesne wcielenia praskiego Golema, w tym omówienie modernistycznego Golema Gustava Meyrinka. Osobne rozdziały dotyczą Frankensteina Mary Shelley oraz dramatu R.U.R. Rossum’s Universal Robots Karela Čapka. Obraz muzułmana jako istoty nie ludzkiej w literaturze obozowej został przedstawiony w kontekście procesów opisanych przez Giorgio Agambena i Zygmunta Baumana. Ostatni rozdział zawiera konfrontację idei transhumanistów z obrazami postludzkiego społeczeństwa zawartymi w powieściach fantastyczno-naukowych. The Golem is a human-like figure animated by the creative power of man. Writers went beyond the descriptions of folklore or Jewish Kabbalah, embedding the Golem's figure in a circle of phenomena characteristic for modernity. The image of Golem as an artificial or dehumanized human being becomes a model of the influence of various social projects, including totalitarian ideology, on man. The story of Golem, a creature that cannot be "like a human", reveals the limits of human existence and the consequences of being beyond those boundaries. The work opens with the presentation of the evolution of the Golem's character from the first mention to the contemporary incarnations of the Prague Golem, including the modernist Gustav Meyrink's Golem. The next chapters concern Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Karel Čapek's drama R.U.R. Rossum's Universal Robots. The image of a Muselmann as a non-human being in camp literature was presented in the context of the processes described by Giorgio Agamben and Zygmunt Bauman. The last chapter contains a confrontation of the transhumanists' ideas with posthuman images of society in science fiction novels.
