Człowiek średniowiecza wobec śmierci. Analiza historyczno-antropologiczna Dialogu Mistrza Polikarpa ze Śmiercią i Skargi Umierającego

W pracy tej próbuję stosując teorie właściwe amerykańskiej antropologii symbolicznej zanalizować dwa średniowieczne teksty – Dialog Mistrza Polikarpa ze Śmiercią i Skargę Umierającego. W pierwszej części pracy głównymi narzędziami metodologicznymi są stworzony przez Clifforda Geertza opis gęsty i idea symboli kardynalnych Sherry B. Ortner, koncepcja rytuałów przejścia Victora W. Turnera oraz teoria rytuału interakcyjnego Ervinga Goffmana. W drugiej wykorzystuję pojęcia wyobrażeń, przyswojeń i praktyk z teorii historii Rogera Chartiera i przy ich pomocy badam interakcję pomiędzy światem tekstu a światem średniowiecznego odbiorcy badanych tekstów. In this work I’m trying to analyse two medieval texts (The Dialogue between Master Polycarp and the Death and The Dying’s Man Complaint) using theories made by American symbolic anthropologists. In the first part of my thesis, the main methodological tools are Clifford Geertz’s idea of thick description, Sherry Ortner’s idea of key symbols, Victor W. Turner’s conception of rites of passage and Erving Goffman’s conception of interaction ritual. In the second part, I am using Roger Chartier’s three main concepts taken from his theory of history (the notions of appropriation, representation and practices) I have investigated the interaction between world of texts and the world of their medieval readers.
