Collaborative Experiences of Community Leaders in Eradicating Human Trafficking: A Community of Practice

Cooper, Chandra Abstract This dissertation explored the collaborative experiences of community leaders in eradicating human trafficking through the framework of a Community of Practice (CoP). As human trafficking remains a pervasive global issue, effective strategies necessitate the engagement of diverse stakeholders, including law enforcement, social services, nongovernmental organizations, and community advocates. This study examined how CoPs facilitate knowledge sharing, resource mobilization, and coordinated interventions among these stakeholders, thereby enhancing their collective impact on trafficking prevention and survivor support. The researcher used qualitative interviews to capture the experiences and perspectives of community leaders involved in anti-trafficking initiatives. The findings revealed that formalized CoPs significantly improve collaboration, foster trust, and enhance participants’ skills, leading to more effective responses to trafficking cases. The study identified key factors that contribute to the success of these communities, including clear objectives, strong leadership, and sustained engagement. This dissertation contributed to the existing literature on human trafficking by providing empirical evidence on the value of collaborative frameworks. It underscored the importance of fostering CoPs as a strategic approach to combating human trafficking, advocating for policies that support such initiatives. Ultimately, this research aimed to inform practitioners and policymakers on best practices for establishing and sustaining effective partnerships in the fight against human trafficking, paving the way for more comprehensive and coordinated efforts at the local, regional, and national levels.
