Cultivating Multicultural Learning Environments: A Blueprint for Establishing a Korean Language and Cultural Immersion School in Southeastern Wisconsin

Park, Hae Jin Abstract This qualitative study explores how cultural inclusivity can be fostered in elementary education through the development of an independent Korean Language and Cultural Immersion School in Southeastern Wisconsin. Grounded in multicultural education and culturally responsive pedagogy, the study examines stakeholder perspectives on the need for Korean language and cultural representation in schools. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with parents, educators, and Korean community members and analyzed using thematic analysis. Four major themes emerged: cultural identity and representation, educational equity and inclusion, community engagement and cultural sustainability, and pedagogical and implementation considerations. The findings indicate that Korean culture is underrepresented in schools and that a Korean immersion program could support students’ identity development, sense of belonging, and bilingual growth. Participants also emphasized the importance of equitable access, strong community partnerships, and culturally competent teachers. This study contributes to research on underrepresented language immersion programs and provides a practical framework for developing culturally responsive and community-based educational models.
