Exploration and Promotion of Colombian Music: Recording Project for Clarinet and Guitar Ensemble
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis doctoral project explores and promotes Colombian music for clarinet and guitar, focusing on both the Andean and Caribbean regions. The study includes the recording featuring nine carefully selected works: two newly commissioned compositions, three traditional Colombian pieces (two historically performed in this format and one specifically written for it), and four arrangements (two Caribbean and two Andean). The project highlights the importance of expanding the repertoire for this ensemble, particularly incorporating music from the Caribbean, where the clarinet plays a central role. It also addresses interpretative approaches for rhythms such as bambuco, pasillo, bambuco fiestero, porro, and cumbia, offering performers practical guidance rooted in Colombian musical traditions. Additionally, the project presents biographies of the composers, arrangers, and performers involved, situating their contributions within the broader Colombian music context. Beyond preservation, this project aims to share Colombian musical heritage with audiences worldwide, encouraging global appreciation and further exploration of the clarinet and guitar as a duo format.
