Application of the Hydraulic Analogy to Internal Subsonic Flow

A study was made to determine the quantitative accuracy of the hydraulic analogy when applied to subsonic internal flows such as exist in pure fluid elements. The study included a literature survey, an analytical investigation of the hydraulic analogy, and an experimental test program to measure the degree of correlation between an air and water model of a typical pure fluid element. The fluid element used in the experimental program was a nonsymmetrical flow divider. It was shown that, in spite of the many simplifying assumptions made in the analogy, the quantitative data correlated to within 3 percent.
