Family Function and Health Promoting Behavior Perceived by High school students
Abstract
dc:descriptionTeenage period is an important period that build healthy habit. Family function effects teenager’s physical and mental health. Family function is important because teenager’s health condition effects the family and society. This research surveyed high school students’family functions and health promoting behavior action level to find out relations of family function to health promoting behavior. This could provide basis of further study. The survey was collected from 502 high school freshmen and sophomores from 2009 Sept 14th through 23rd. Collected data analysis was done by SPSS 12.0 Program. The result of this research is as following. Overall average for family function was 60.6. Family cohesion score was 32.2, and family adaptability score was 28.4. Looking at the family cohesion section, family function average for outlier group was 51.58, and separate group average was 63.71, connected group average was 73.12, and adhered group average was 81.8. Looking at family’s adaptability section, cold group score was 39.82, structured group score was 58.45, flexible group score was 70.16, and chaos group score was 49.7. Subject groups’health promoting behavior level average was 2.76. health liability score at 2.82, nutrition and workout score was 2.68, stress control score was 2.51, interpersonal relationship score was 3.09, and goal accomplishment score was 2.89. Looking at family function section, health promoting behavior level result is as follows. Family cohesion score for outlier group was 123.80, separated group was 130.55, connected group was 140.47, and adhered group was 147.26. Family adaptability score for cold group was 117.28, structured group was 128.84, flexible group was 136.01, and chaotic group was 122.52. In the difference of Family cohesion and Family adaptability between health promoting behavior. Subject’s difference in general character and family function is related to monthly income of the father and his job and it has some relations to family cohesion (χ²=25.946,p<.001;χ²=9.406,p=.047). Also, father’s job have some relations to family’s adaptability(χ²=14.918,p=.021). Other things did not have impact on family cohesion and adaptability. After these surveys, family cohesion and adaptability showed significant impact on health promoting behavior level. Therefore school students’family function level is related to cohesion and adaptability. Nurses should provide programs that will encourage teenager to do health promoting behavior correctly and also the program should be well designed for their specialty. The programs should improve family function and consulting the family for closer relationship of families and nurses is necessary.
