Relationship between family histories and allergic disease with childhood atopic Dermatitis
Abstract
dc:descriptionThis study aims to examine the relationship between parent's history of allergic disease and children's atopic dermatitis. Data from the 2011 Research on the Current Status of Atopic Disease with Elementary Schools and Kindergartens in Suwon were used for analysis. Among 20,052 persons agreeing to the survey 18,943 Subjects who had answer about parent's history were selected for the study. And the study results were the following. First, The study population included 18,529 subjects(9,268 males and 9,261 females). The prevalence of father, mother, and parent's allergic disease history were 8.5%, 9.5%, and 2.3%, respective. The children with atopic dermatitis subjects comprised 15.1% of the study population. Second, weight at birth, the practice of breast-feeding, father's educational level, existence of chemical products in the inside, and existence of mold had a statistically significant of an atopic dermatitis in elementary school children(p<0.05). Third, the prevalence of children's atopic dermatitis was greater in parent's history of allergic disease(p<.0001). Forth, in multivariate analyses, gender, weight at birth, the practice of breast-feeding, father's educational level, existence of chemical products in the inside, and existence of mold were significant risk factors for children's atopic dermatitis. The multivariate-adjusted odds ratio for the occurrence of the children's atopic dermatitis was 3.19(95% CI : 2.573-3.952) when subjects with and without parent's history were compared. On children's atopic dermatitis, history of allergic disease exerted more influence than parent's health behavior or income level. And it has been found that when fathers have the history of allergic disease, children tend to have atopic dermatitis more than when mothers have it.
