The study of a 3 3-dimentional structure of the congenital anomalous stape stapes compared with normal s stape stapes using Micro Micro-CT

dc:descriptionPURPOSE: There is limited information about the internal structure of congenital anomalous ossicles. Recently, Micro CT scanning technology has been applied to analysis of skeletal structure. The data of normal ossicles and pathologic ossicle destructed by cholesteatoma were reported in our hospital. This study aims to compare the congenital anomalous stapes with normal one and to understand the pathophysiology of congenital stapes anomaly. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The structures of 4 stapeses obtained from 4 persons with congenital ossicular anomaly and 1 stapes obtained from 1 person with recurrent cholesteatoma during operation were analyzed through micro CT by filming the 2-dimensional cross section image running perpendicular to the long axis of the stapeses. The 3-dimensional images were thereby reconstructed for each, and were analyzed using CTAnalyzerTM and AntTM. Based on the results the volume fraction of each stapeses were measured. RESULTS: In previous study, the volume fraction was lower in the potions of ossicles destructed by cholesteatoma than those of ossicles. In our study, the volume fraction of destructed potion of some congenital anomalous stapeses were similar to that of normal stapes and others were lower to that of normal stapes. CONCLUSION: Our preliminary data of stapss structure analysed by micro CT scan will be helpful to understand the pathophysiology of congenital ossicular anomaly. And the etiology of congenital stapes anomaly may be congenital or inflammatory.
