Abstract
dc:descriptionThe retrospective epidemiological study of admitted burn patients from January 1986 to December 2003 was undertaken. We evaluated the hospitalized burn patients with gender,causes,extent, and lesion according to the age,monthly and seasonal prevalence,treatment modalities. We classified the six age groups by 0-1 years(infancy), 2-5 years(preschool), 6-10 years(prepubertal), 11-20 years(adolescence), 21-60 years(adult),and over 61 years of age(senescence)in consideration of social and developmental aspects. The males were12,215 patients(64.4%),females were6,756 patients(35.6%) Male to female ratio was 1.98:1. Flame burn showed the highest incidence in all patients(43.6%),however, in age group of infancy and preschool period,the scalding burn was leading causes of burn injury in each groups(78.2%,77.5%). Burned site among the patients, the multiple site was most common(74.3%),the upper extremity only was8.9%,and the lower extremity only was 8.5%. The extents of burned area,the less than 10% group was the most common in all age groups.
