Restenosis of Coronary Artery Disease on the Implementation of Family Support and Health Behavior Research

Abstract

dc:description

This research is a descriptive correlation study to find relationship between family support and health behavior compliance for coronary artery restenosis patients helping prevent re-stenosis and promote health behavior. Subjects of the study were 80 patients were enrolled who got medical or surgical re-intervention after PCI for coronary artery re-stenosis at a general hospital at Kyonggido-province. Data collection was done from August 15th, 2012 to April 15th, 2013. Measurement of family support was done by 41-item questionnaire modified from Oh(2001). Health behavior was measured using tools by Jeong(2006) modified from HPLP(Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile) by Walker, Sechrist and Pender(1987). Structured questionnaire was taken on hospital admission for getting general characteristics, family support and health behavior. SPSS Windows 18.0 program was used for statistical analysis. Total number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation, independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were done. Summary of the results was follows. 1. Family support was 2.36±0.48 from maximum 4 point. Dietary support showed the highest, medication support, stress-related support, exercise support in order. 2. Health behavior was 2.68±0.34 of 4 point. Smoking-quitting showed the highest, health responsibility behavior, dietary behavior, exercise behavior, stress management behavior in order. 3. There is significant correlation between family support and health behavior compliance(r=.469, p=<.001). Family support has significant correlation to all kind of health behavior including health responsibility(p<.001), exercise behavior(p<.001), dietary behavior(p=.030), stress managment behavior(p=.032), stop smoking behavior(p=.030). 4. The general characteristics of the subjects showed significant difference for family support. Religious people showed better family support (t=2.336, p=.022). High and middle economic grade subjects also showed better family support(F=7.212, p=.001) 5. The subjects also showed significance for health behavior between economic state and smoking history. High and middle economic grade has higher health behavior (F=7.043, p=.002). For smoking history, ‘never-smoking’ and ‘quit-smoking’ groups showed higher health behavior than ‘still-smoking’ group(F=5.108, p=.008). In this study, there is significant correlation between family support and health behavior for coronary artery re-stenosis patients. So enhancing family support can improve health behavior and prevent re-stenosis after PCI.
