The Relation between Post-Traumatic Stress and Depression in Korean Firefighter

Abstract

dc:description

This study aims to identify the relationship between the level of post traumatic stress and depression among fire fighters. Data was collected from 126 male fire fighters with over one year of job experience in a fire station and a 119 safety center from August 23 to August 26, 2013. The level of post-traumatic stress was measured with IES-R-K standardized by Hunjeong Eun et al(2005), based on IES-R developed by Weiss & Marmar(1997). The level of depression was measured with 13 items selected from the SCL-90-R and translated into Korean by Kwangil Kim (1984) from the Symptom Checklist-90-Revision developed by Derogatis, Rickles, Rock(1976). Data was analyzed using the SPSS Window 19.0 program for assessing statistical information on the real numbers, percentage, One-way ANOVA, Independent t-tests,Pearson'sCorrelationCoefficient.
