Playing at being other: the self-less process of artistic co-creation

This research investigates how artists work together as a community to co-create placespecific installation and performance projects. Using an in-depth study of the international arts collective Libertalia, the research examines artistic co-creation as a shared, relational process rather than an individual act of authorship. Drawing on reflective practice, fieldnotes, and performance theory, the study explores how play, ritual, mimesis and collaboration shape creative processes and relationships between artists. The research contributes new insights into how co-creative artistic practices operate in practice and offers guidance for artists, researchers, and organisations working in participatory and collaborative arts contexts.
